Transmission

Transmission is a multimedia installation which examines a moment where the rituals of grief have ended but the processes of mourning remain in the nebulous space of the brain. The audience sees/hears: walls of wire braids based on Victorian mourning braid patterns; a video of hands braiding projected on a walk-through curtain; two work tables are positioned on opposite walls, a video on the wall above each table plays a programmed call and response series of neurological and braiding animations. A braiding table sits adjacent to the worktables with a video of hands braiding projected on its surface and spilling out onto the floor. A sound collage of field recordings from a neuroscience lab, a woman whispering braiding patterns, and human breathing plays throughout.
